The most knowledgeable physician as to the harms of sugars is Robert Lustig (Fat Chance)  see his video Sugar – The Bitter Truth here

Gary Taubes gives a general lecture on the topic, Why We Get Fat, an excellent primer on why we are overweight.

In this video,  Taubes details the fundamental difference between those researchers who believe all calories are the same and those who believe that fat cells are regulated by hormones not the energy balance equation. Lots of graphs and science here.

The latest work to challenge the old dogma is a book called The Big Fat Surprise by journalist Nina Teicholz, interviewed above. You can hear her informative TEDx talk here.

Peter Attia is a founding member of the NuSI intiative. He movingly describes insulin resistance and its consequences here

An excellent video which describes the basics of a low carbohydrate diet is found in the advertisement for the cruise control diet by James Ward. It’s an advertisement but the description of insulin resistance and metabolic syndrome is excellent. You might like the diet but I haven’t reviewed it!

Dr. Eric Westergren from the Duke University Lifestyle Medicine clinic’s very low carbohydrate diet treatment program talks about their use of the Atkin’s diet here.

Dr. James O’keefe discusses “The fitness patterns for conferring longevity and robust lifelong cardiovascular health are distinctly different from the patterns that develop peak performance and marathon/superhuman endurance.” Moderate exercise confers the most increase in lifespan and general health. Very intense exercise cause can promote heart disease and reduce the health benefits of exercise. Most of us won’t challenge that boundary, however.
